Costa Rica Eco Adventure

Day 1 | Welcome to beautiful Costa Rica!
Upon arrival we will begin with a scenic drive on the Panamerican Highway and gradually make our way from the steamy lowlands to the chilly, Pacific highlands of Monteverde, home of the cloud enshrouded elfin forest and exotic tree frogs. After checking in to our hotel, the group will visit a local Frog Garden for a perfect introduction to some of these amazing tropical amphibians. (D)

Day 2 | Monteverde
Rise and shine bright and early, because the early bird catches the worm and we want to be there to see it! Today we will head to the Santa Elena Reserve for an easy hike through the tropical rain and cloud forests. This will be your chance to finally witness the steady work of the leafcutter ants, the gawking toucanets, and the iridescent poison dart frogs! For lunch, everyone will have a chance to explore the town of Monteverde and practice your Spanish and use of foreign currency while having lunch. In the afternoon we will visit a very typical and interactive coffee farm where the workers will engage you on a dynamic, cultural and historical introduction to this agricultural tradition that has prevailed in Costa Rica for over 100 years. (B, D)

Day 3 | Guanacaste / Rincon de la Vieja
This morning we will continue learning about Costa Rican traditions and culture when we visit a sugar cane mill. The ‘trapiche’ was a predominant milling method for many years in Costa Rica, and today is an icon in Costa Rica’s folklore. Next we will migrate to the dry lowlands, known as the “pampa brava” in the province of Guanacaste and make our way past scenic pueblos and endless cattle pastures to a large working hacienda nestled on the flanks of the Rincon de la Vieja volcano. After checking in to our accommodations, we will take on one of the most exciting zip line tours in the country. This Canyon Zip Line Tour is literally strung through the stunning canyon of the Rio Blanco and boasts 12 zip line cables, 24 platforms, 2 climbing walls, a hanging bridge, one rappel and two tarzan swings! (B, L, D)

Day 4 | Rincon de la Vieja National Park
Today we will drive up to the Rincon de la Vieja National Park. Although the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano is dormant, the area around it still remains very active. As we walk the Las Pailas trail we will witness boiling mud pots, steaming fumaroles, smelly sulfuric vents and natural hot creeks. We will hike through the dry tropical forest and undoubtedly witness some howler monkeys, agoutis, colorful birds and hopefully some interesting ground dwellers.  After our hike we will stop off at the local hot springs for a relaxing dip and some natural mud bathing. After lunch we will hike to the Choreras Waterfall where everyone can cool off in the iridescent blue waters of the delightful Rio Blanco. (B, L, D)

Day 5 | Rincon de la Vieja / Potrero Beach
To top off all our amazing adventures at Rincon de la Vieja, we will take on an exhilarating inner tubing tour on the Rio Negro. Everyone will wear helmets and have their own specially designed inner tube and be guided down this easy creek by professional guides. After some good times of laughing and bouncing down the river, we will pack up and check out of our hotel and head to the playa! (B, L, D)

Day 6 | Potrero Beach
For our final bit of adventure, today we will go outrigger canoeing to one of the most beautiful beach of Costa Rica. If the conditions permit, the snorkeling in the area is pretty good too. In the afternoon, everyone can enjoy a bit of leisure time or maybe even a game of soccer with the locals on the beach. (B, L, D)

Day 7 | Potrero Beach – San Jose
After a leisurely morning, we will travel back to San Jose. In the afternoon we will tour the city and do some last minute souvenir shopping. Tonight we will celebrate our journey through Costa Rica and all the incredible things we learned and encountered with a big final feast at a typical restaurant. (B, L, D)

Day 8 | San Jose
Although everything must come to an end, at least lots of memories were made. We hope you enjoyed your trip and adventure under the sun in Costa Rica!  Have a safe trip home! (B)
