The Southern Baja Sea Turtle Conservation and the Magical Espiritu Santo

Day 1 | Arrival in Mexico - La Paz
We will arrive to La Paz and will be transferred to the peaceful city of La Paz where we stay our first night in Mexico. We will do a city tour by foot and get familiar of the heart of the city “Zocalo” area. In the evening we enjoy our first Mexican dinner. (D)

Day 2 | Espiritu Santo
After breakfast we depart for our island excursion to the magical Espiritu Santo. Here we start our 1 night minisafari which includes snorkeling with sea lions and kayaking. In the evening we will do a hike on the island to watch the beautiful sunset and return to camp on the island. (B, L, D)

Day 3 | Espiritu Santo
Rise and shine! Early wake up for hiking above the Espiritu Santo island before breakfast. During the day we will do another kayaking tour and try paddle boarding with instructors. After all these activities we will be rewarded with some Mexican ceviche and snacks. After lunch we will be transferred back to the jetty from where we return to La Paz in time for dinner. (B, L, D)

Days 4 - 6 | Magdalena Bay
Time to start our volunteering experience. We will leave early in the morning from La Paz towards Magladena Bay where instructors for the 4 day service work experience are waiting for us. During these days we will learn a lot of the sea turtles and the research methods used, meaning of mangrove forests to the nature, birds and about about the pristine area where we camp at. We will learn “leave no trace” camping techniques and how to respect the wildlife properly. We get answers for many sea turtle and environmental questions we have, such as:
-Why and how we monitor sea turtles?
- The migration routes from Magdalena Bay to Japan.
- How do the sea turtles reproduct?
- What are the extinction threats?
- How can we protect them?
- What is my role in the conservation?

And all this while we are having fun! The last night we will have a talk with the local fishermen listening their own stories and experiences, about life as a fisherman, what they have learned from the sea and their path towards conservation around a campfire. (B, L,D)

Day 7 – 8 | Magdalena Bay – La Paz
Today is time to leave our new fisherman friends and head back to La Paz. Luckily we have all the photographs, memories and stories to take with us. Before we leave we’ll hike the majestic sand dun es all the way to Pacific before arriving to our secluded picnic spot. After lunch we return to La Paz and day 8 is time to board our flight back home. Adios Mexico…for now! (B, L, D. Day 8 breakfast only)
