The Land of Sagas – Iceland

Day 1 | Reykjavik
Welkominn to Iceland! On arrival our guide will pick us up at Keflavik Airport, from where we will be transferred to Reykjavik. We start our journey by getting to know Reykjavik (time permitting). Among places we will see are the old harbour, the city center, Hallgrimskirkja church and the Pearl. (D)

Day 2 | Reykjavik – Hvolsvollur
Today we drive to Þingvellir (Parliament Plaines), the location of the old parliament and a geological phenomenon. From there we drive to the Geyser geothermal area for a spouting hot spring and to Gullfoss, the Golden Waterfall, where on a sunny day you can see a rainbow in the spray above the waterfall. From there we proceed to our overnight stay. (B, L, D)

Day 3 | Hvolsvollur – Glacial Lagoon
We start the day by visiting the waterfall of Seljarlandsfoss. From there we continue to Solheimajokull glacier, the rocks of Reynisdrangar, black sands and the lava of the Laki eruption in 1782-1783. From there we drive to the Glacier Lagoon (Jokulsarlon) before driving to our overnight stay. (B, L, D)

Day 4 | Glacial Lagoon – Vik
On the third day the trip continues towards the oasis at Skaftafell national park close to Vatnajokull, Europe‘s biggest glacier. At Skaftafell we take a walk to the waterfall Svartifoss and another short walk towards the glacier tongue. (B, L, D)

Day 5 | Vik – Reykjavik
Today we will visit the waterfall Skogafoss and the Folk museum of Skogar. Then we will visit the Eyjafjallajokull volcano visitor center. In the afternoon we drive back to Reykjavik. (B, L, D)

Day 6 |  The Saga Circle
The tour goes from Reykjavik trough Hvalfjordur (Whalefjord) towards Borgarfjordur. We will stop at Deildartunguhver, Europe´s watermost hot spring, Hraunfossar (Lava waterfalls) and Barnafossar (Children´s waterfalls). We will also stop in Reykholt, the place where Snorri Sturluson, the famous 13th century poet, lived and wrote his historic books (Snorra-Edda and the Saga of Egill Skallagrimsson to mentions some). From
Reykholt the tour goes to Borgarnes where we will visit the Settlement Center. (B, L, D)

Day 7 | The Reykjanes Peninsula – Blue Lagoon – Departure
We drive to the Reykjanes peninsula where the mid Atlantic ridge rises from the ocean. More than half of the peninsula is covered with lava flows, some of which are only a few hundred years old. We will visit boiling mud pool´s and hot springs and head for the lighthouse on the westernmost tip of the peninsula with rich bird life in the summer. Then we continue to the Blue Lagoon for a relaxing bath before driving to Keflavik Airport departure flight. (B)

  • Glacier lagoon boat ride (starts mid-April, weather permitting)
  • Horseback riding on Icelandic horses
  • Glacial walking
