The Spirit of Bali – Indonesia

Day 1 | Denpasar Bali – Ubud
We land into Bali and will be met by our guide and head directly to Ubud, Bali’s cultural center. If our flight arrives in time for lunch, on the way to Ubud, we will drop into The Green School for lunch and a visit at this remarkable eco-international high school.  A nice welcome into the Balinese country-side, this stop will put us in touch with how local students live and study in a unique environmentally sustainable school.  After lunch we check into our hotel and freshen up.  We will have our orientation and then some down time to relax and swim in the pool before dinner.  (L, D)

Day 2 | Ubud bike tour
Rise and Shine! Today, a short drive after breakfast and we’re off on our mountain bikes through the heartland of Bali, travelling downhill on non tourist, secret back roads and minor village roads (with little traffic), experiencing typical Balinese daily life and enjoying the beautiful Balinese countryside to Ubud. We ride through lush forested areas, plantations full of Balinese staples and cash crops (cloves, coffee, cocoa, vanilla, tapioca, taro, local vegetables and exotic tropical fruits), through timeless small villages and lush rice paddy panoramas. And throngs of adorable Balinese children will be there calling out ‘hellos’ and wanting ‘high fives’ on the way down. If we chance upon a ceremony (and we often do) you will be invited to witness the events and our guides will offer explanations. Lunch, set in the serene surrounds of rice paddies, is a delectable Balinese feast!  We head back to the hotel in the evening for a quick clean up and then we hit the town for dinner together.

Day 3 | White Water Rafting and cooking lesson
After breakfast, we meet up with our rafting guide and head out on the Ayung River. As we carve through some of Bali’s most appealing landscape, the Ayung River provides a thrill that begins the moment we push of from the riverbanks. As we switch between Class I and II rapids, we will wind through deep valleys with cascading waterfalls and towering cliffs of prehistoric significance. On the more leisurely stretches through tropical forests we will see Hindu shrines that are brightly decorated on ceremonial days of prayer. Just as you think it is all coming to an end, the unpredictable Ayung

River propels our raft into yet another rapid. Once off the river, we head
back to our hotel to freshen up. In the evening, we will visit our good friend and Indonesian chef, Ms. Dayu, will be waiting for us with her kitchen ready. She will show us the secrets to the local food, teach us how to make some yummy dishes and then we will dine on our creations. After dinner, we head back to our hotel for a much deserved sleep.
