Catalina Island Wonders

Day 1San Diego-Avalon, Santa Catalina Island – Avalon Campground – After our morning ferry ride across the Pacific Ocean to the quaint island of Santa Catalina, we start our quick escape with a close and personal walking tour of the enchanting village of Avalon.  Along the way there will be many panoramic views of the bay and valley. Then, we transfer to our campsite and set up for the next few days! L, snacks, D.

Day 2Santa Catalina Island- Avalon Campground – Hiking – After breakfast today, we hike the spectacular canyons, scenic coastline, and unspoiled countryside – all alive with native plants and wildlife. With luck, we will see friendly natives like buffalo, deer, wild boars, wild turkeys, bald eagles, and Catalina Island foxes.  After lunch, explore Catalina’s beautiful towns on your own!!!  Some free time to check out this sea side town and all it has to offer! Meet back for dinner at the camp and share stories about your adventures! B, L snack, D

Day 3 - Santa Catalina Island – Volunteer Camp – Student Service Project- After breakfast, we get ready to head to the camp where we will be doing our volunteer work on the island.  The Laura Stein Volunteer Camp is located approximately 5 miles west of Avalon, near Haypress Reservoir. Perched 1,300-feet above the Pacific OceanIt is isolated among Coastal Scrub Oak and Lemonade Berry groves overlooking the Catalina Channel with views of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Once at the camp, we will set up, orient ourselves, and have lunch.  Afternoon talks and activities will revolve around conservation and its importance! B, L, snack, D.

Day 4Santa Catalina Island- Volunteer Camp-Service Project! – Today, we will help the island to eliminate invasive species or help restore native plants!  This type of work is crucial to maintaining the islands original flora and fauna. We get the unique opportunity to tread where few people are permitted to go! B, L, Snacks, D.

Day 5Santa Catalina Island – Volunteer Camp/ Avalon Campground – Hiking – Being a part of the conservation of the island, we get an up-close and personal look at the trials and tribulations facing island conservation today.  Returning from our awesome experience of helping to maintain and preserve the island, we’ll take an afternoon hike to help us to see the island with a new perspective.  B, L, D.

Day 6Santa Catalina Island – Avalon Campground – Kayaking/Snorkeling – See the island from your personal sea kayak and get a new perspective from off the coast as you paddle around in your personal watercraft.  Explore new parts of the island that were previously off limits to two-legged travel. With an opportunity to snorkel, another world will open up to us as we explore beneath the ocean’s surface! B, L, Snacks D.

Day 7Catalina – San Diego – Today, we bid goodbye to the beautiful and pristine Catalina Island.  We depart mid-morning on our boat leading to the mainland.  Our bus will take us back to San Diego and will arrive mid-afternoon.  B, L.
